President's Message:
|
Thanks for making this year's Wine and Jazz a success! A tough economy made it difficult, but working together our club persevered. Special thanks to Janet and Steve for pulling it together. The rest of the committee deserves thanks as well...Tom, Donna, Howard, Mimi, JoAnne and Chip. And that night, Margaret, Laura, Andres, Kris, Jack, David and Cathy Brown all pitched in.
Bill took a ton of pictures...Caroline and her staff at Tappan Hill were outstanding which gives this event an unsurpassed air of class! Dale's and Mark Morganelli put the wine and jazz into the evening. Angela, Carolyn and newcomer Meagan were very effective in selling raffle tickets.

Thanks to all the advertisers, those who donated raffle prizes and those who donated items for the silent auction. Wilson and Sons' participation is greatly appreciated and has hopefully become a mainstay as many attendees look forward to bidding on their fine selection of jewelry.
While we may not have had a big a turnout as in the past, the crowd that was there had a great time.
Club News:
March was busy with Wine & Jazz planning, Duck Derby kickoffs and speakers. We learned that we can eat what we want, it's all a matter of moderation and choices. The RSHM Life Center is busy with activities and finally Managing Home Care takes time. And Westchester has many resources available. We also welcome two new members to our club, Harold Gross and Alan Guarino. Hats off to our membership committee and the rest of our group for working to increase our membership. Soon we may outgrow our meeting space!
St. Patrick's Day Parade
We had a great turn out of Rotarians at the parade and were escorted by our very own ducks. For those who missed the fun!

Breitbarth Update - The applications deadline was April 1, 2009. Once the selections are made, an announcement will be made to the club.
Community Service - The committee met March 3, 2009 and awarded $14,500 in grants. These were approved at the March 18, 2009 board meeting and announced at the club meeting that followed. In addition to this amount, the fixed grants of $18,000 will be distributed during the year.
International Committee - The committee has several projects that have been submitted and will hold a meeting to review the applications. Once a recommendation is ready, David Cartenuto will make a presentation to the club.
Wine & Jazz Update
What a night! Great music, lots of food, plenty of items to bid on. Our club certainly knows how to have fun. We should know how much money we raised by our next newsletter! In the meantime, it was great to see so many Rotarians and friends come out for a good cause.

Duck Derby
The big kickoff was March 27, 2009 with our Ducks appearing for photo's and group pictures. Please remember to distribute our adoption solicitation form. These can also be emailed to your family and friends. Our Grand Prize is a $1,000 AMEX gift card. The form is on our website at http://www.tarrytownrotary.org/RubberDuckyDerby2009.cfm. Please be sure to discard any old brochures that have the TV listed as the Grand Prize.
A big thank you to our sponsors, The Hudson Independent, Mahopac National Bank, Hitachi, Tarrytown Honda and Allan Block Insurance Agency. Their help allows us to make this a bigger and better event! And don't forget we are holding this event in collaboration with the Tarrytown Family YMCA's Healthy Kids Day. Our two groups combining efforts is what makes this an extrodinary family event!
Should you have any questions, please contact Mimi Godwin, mag1126@optonline.net, JoAnne Murray, jmurray@ambins.com or Donna Puff, Donna_L_Puff@keybank.com. The goal this year is to race 2000 ducks!
