President's Message:
|
Dear Rotarians,
Happy New Year ! We ended 2008 with a festive meeting hosted by the good folks at Sleepy Hollow High School. We celebrated with a fine lunch and treated to the beautiful sounds of the fine student musicians at SHHS. All of this took place in the new portion of the high school. What little we were able to see is gorgeous and the auditorium is the crown jewel. Thank you to Howard Smith and the Principal for their hospitality.

Our first fundraiser of the season seems to be a success (as soon as all the money is collected). Big thanks to Gerry B and his henchman, Chip...the fruit is excellent ( didn't know they grew oranges and grapefruit in Aruba?!?)
We have kicked off the Duck Derby and are in gear to bring the Wine and Jazz to life!
I look forward to a great 2009, with much hope for our nation as for our local community. We can and will have a much needed positive impact on both as we use the strength of our club to bring help and hope to many. May I take a moment to thank each of you for your past help and for the future help I will need to help steer our club into the new year. It is truly a privilege to be your club President.
May each of you and your families have a happy and healthy 2009 !
Club News:
December was a short month in terms of meetings. Yet that did not mean we were not busy as a club. Who us? Never! We started the month with the Duck Derby kickoff with our sponsors and lots of fun for all. Then we listened to Rabbi Barry Kenter share his experiences that his Rotary fellowship offered him in starting his career that led him to run the Jewish center in Greenburgh. And we ended with a luncheon at the Sleepy Hollow Middle/High School which included a holiday concert. Oh and during this we also ran a food drive for local food pantries while our ducks made an appearance on Main Street during Tarrytown's Third Friday.
Duck Derby Kickoff
On December 3, 2008 we held the kickoff for our second annual Duck Derby. Howard, JoAnne and Mimi came in their favorite outfits to bring the Duck Sprit to our club and show our sponsors just how much fun we have with this event. Packets with Duck Derby information were distributed to everyone. Included were adoption forms and Rotary's Rubber Ducky Derby Day brochures.
A big thank you to our sponsors Mahopac National Bank, Hitachi, The Hudson Independent, Tarrytown Honda and Allan Block Insurance for supporting us with this event. With their help we know we can bring another fun, family day to the community. And raise funds to give back to all the organizations that rely on financial help from organizations like ours.

Hope Hose Presentation
On December 3, 2008, the Club presented Fred Gross of Hope Hose Fire Company a check towards restoration of their antique fire truck. This was to thank the fire company for all their help with our duck derby. The presentation was made at our Second Annual Duck Derby kickoff.

Wine & Jazz - The date has been set for March 30, 2009. The venue is once again at Tappan Hill with Abigail Kirsch Please check with Steve Byelick on how you can help. Ads need to be sold for the journal. Items need to be collected for the silent auction. Tickets need to be sold. If everyone gives just a little time, we can make this another successful night.
Duck Derby - Adoption have begun for the duck derby. If you need brochures, please contact Mimi Godwin, mag1126@optonline.net, JoAnne Murray, jmurray@ambins.com or Donna Puff, Donna_L_Puff@keybank.com for adoption papers and materials. The goal this year is to race 2000 ducks! So let's work together and get the ducks adopted!!!!
Holiday Party
The club enjoyed a wonderful holiday luncheon at the Sleepy Hollow HS/MS on December 17, 2008. Afterwards we were entertained by the school chorus, chamber ensemble and jazz emsemble. These students impressed us with their talents and everyone enjoyed all the holiday music.
Just before entering the new auditorium, Howard Smith brought the club to teh gym to see the flag and sign we donated. Of course Bill Burnette had his camera!
